Smile Building an Automatic knife

I'm thinking about making similar thread as Mr. Robinson made about the toothpick, but with automatic folder, of course if nobody will have any objections.

It would probably be a button lock, coil spring automatic, the drawing would be for download in my first post of the thread.
Who's in?

Yeah, great, Papi.

I'll be there. I hope I can keep up. My back is really bothering me now. I spend most of my time flat on my back.

Papi, can you convert your drawings to an Adobe .pdf file? That would preserve the scale and our copies would match yours exactly.

I will at least be following along. I'll be making one, probably, but lagging behind due to time restraints. This sounds exciting!

Sounds good! I've been wondering about autos and how they work for a long time. I guess this means I'm in the right place at the right time. I am anxious to get started.

I am going to print to paper for my shop all pictures and information for a much later project. I'm helping my wife to learn to walk again along with doing a few houshold chores. Frank

Papi I will be following along to finish later due to time constraints, trying to get ready for show prior to shoulder surgery.

Automatic knife-first part

Hey guys, i've been thinking about it, and have come up with a way you can design your own knife around my mechanism,, you don't have to make the same knife as me.
all you need is a piece of paper, and a drawing compass. My coil springs are 9mm in diameter, so i'll be working with that, but you can use anything you want, and just adjust your circles on the drawing.

Here is my very crude picture(me and computers are a bad combo), and here is what you need to do:
draw a big circle(diameter will be your overall lenght of your knife)
draw smaller circle around the center of the big circle(which will obviously be where you'll centerpunch your pivot), the diameter will be 14.5 milimetres(9 for the spring, 3mm for the washer, and 2.5 as a radius of your button), and another one, with 17mm diameter(this is spring, washer and button diameter all together, just so you don't have anything of the mechanism poking out of the knife ) .
If you have bigger spring, just add the diameter difference to my numbers and you should be ok
Now, you need to mark your button location, on the smallest circle-somewhere around the position i marked. If you make it too high on the knife profile, it will jam in closed position, and if you mark it too low, you'll have very little blade left(you'll see later). Like i said, around the middle should be ok.
Now you need to mark one more spot, for the stop pin. mark it in the middle of two smaller circles, on top of the handle(all the areas are marked with red circles)

And finaly, draw your own desing around it just bare in mind that the middle circle should not extend out of the handle, and you should be ok.

It might look too complicated, but i promise it will all look very simple once we start building the knife. I'll start tomorrow

If you have any questions, feel free to ask

Oh, i almost forgot, my knife will be done in ATS34, titanium bolsters, and ebony scales(probably, not sure on the scale material )

Take care, i'll halo at y'all soon

Just one question right now. Can this knife function as a manual opener if one chooses not to encorporate the spring? I can't imagine why not, but it's safer not to assume!
