Quillion S guard - how?

Hello Guys, I am making a smaller bowie and want to put a "Quillion S-guard" on it, or what I think is a Quillion S-guard. Curved finger guard on bottom then a curved piece on top of guard with a small round part. Could some one please tell me how to make it or how to get that little round thing on top. I have made S-guards before but not with that round thing on top. Do I have to make it, then twist that top piece? if so, don't the twist show up in the guard? You help, time and directions are appreciated. Thanks. Greg

If you twist it, the twist will show but that is one way it can be done. Most of the time, the guard is cast to get that shape.

Alternately, you could just make the S guard as you have already done but leave a square blob on the ends. After the guard is shaped, use hand tools to shape the blobs as desired ...

I believe Lin Rhea has a picture WIP somewhere that he forges the small balls onto the end of the guard then hand finishes it. Not sure where I saw it. I'll try to dig it up

Thanks for the info and site. Wow, Lin Rhea did a great job on that guard. Thinking it is a lot of work and more complicated than I thought. Will have to think about it some more. Thanks again and have a great day. Sincerely, Greg
