Thanks Mike -- even though I use an awl for making all my holes, rigs like these will be helpful for folded pouches.
Your pics reminded me of Sandy's pics of his wood molds for pre-formed pouches. Lots of little tricks available to make our "work" easier

Mike

Thanks Mike T for showing your drilling boards!! I have trouble holding on to things sometimes so I need to modify stuff a little to make it work for me. I'll use your set up and probably come up with some kind of a hold down (I just thought of something) to keep the folded sheath flat while drilling. I'll post photos of it when I get it put together.

Dave

That's the good thing about this fine site isn't it? Everyone freely shares their tips that they have found to make life easier (and waste less leather) and people pick 'em up, modify them and benefit. I'm sure we all go "Ahh I wish I'd thought of that years ago!" occasionally.

How do you finish the edges on the sheath?

Sam LS,
I have a horizontal edge sander that I use for knife making that pretty much gives a polished edge on my sheaths. I can't remember the exact grit sequence but it's something like start with 50, then 120, 220, 400, 800, ending with a worn A16 Trizac, this can be done by hand also. Then I apply saddle soap with a piece of canvas (or old jeans) rub and buff until it's highly polished, then sand again using a 3 micron (4000 grit) polishing sheet, finishing with a buffed neatsfoot oil/beeswax/carnauba wax mixture. If you have any ?'s about this please don't hesitate to ask. This is just how I do it, I'm sure there are different methods of getting a better finish.

Thanks,
Dave
