Definitely needs some care. No sheath...that's maxed out on price I think.

A true candidate for a shop makeover, that's for sure! It was an early one as well.

Yeah, mid-late 50s or so probably, based on hilt and coolie cap. Wood handle repair is not a big deal, see opening posts in Magic Randall, though if rosewood it could be more expensive. I suppose shop could recondition blade. Sheath might take a while... I wonder what that thing was being used for? Chopping pine trees?

Shop refinishing

Here is another old timer that the shop spruced up recently.

Nice job. What do you think the shop would charge for ... say ... a bowie?

All I can say is this one was around $75.00. Using that as a gauge, if they charged double that (150.00) and applied that to this $450.00 Bowie, I think we would have a pretty nice knife worth twice as much.

Not sure about twice price-value. Prices seem to be subsiding pretty rapidly and I don't think that trend will stop for a while. Older collectors are selling, and there are not as many younger ones. Plus lots of brass backs seem to have survived because of their inherent presentation-display quality.

I've seem some attractive brown button near-antique Randalls going for near the price of a new one now. I guess that means just more chances for those of us still acquiring to acquire. However, I have started carefully restricting myself to what my core interest is. Yet one day in the next 10-15 years, I too will start selling because I doubt my heirs will care much.

Same goes for my other collecting interest, antique oriental carpetry - see background in this picture.

Bill, I wonder why you would say that LOL? Nah, I have a few Delrins, and was tempted to make Delrin handles a focus because they are unique and were all made during the time period I'm interested in. However, I pretty much stick to combat knives of US Vietnam era 1961-1973. .. .

I have collected way too many oriental carpet items. Bad bug to catch. Here are some random sample pictures ... They sometimes make good backgrounds for knife photos...

These are opium poppies (below)

Beautiful knives from an era that I enjoy collecting also!

I was about to say that I wouldn't know an oriental rug from a Wal-Mart rug, but after seeing the hand woven craftsmanship on the examples that you have displayed, I can see the real difference! Sweet!

But...........I think I'll stick to the Randall's for the time being.......lol

I have the sheath....brown button too. Just not sure I would want to let it go.

I would be interested if you ever decide that you want to let it go! Keep me in mind Ronnie.

I have a super nice early 60's brown button sheath for a Model 13 here as well!

Ok Bill. I sort of want to keep it but if I decide to let it go I will give you a shot at it.
