Brass vs Bronze in Bolsters
If you had to choose which would you prefer as a bolster material? Are there any practical reasons to even pick one over the other?

That's a pretty subjective question. Most brass will push to the yellow color side. Bronze tends to go yellow brown, but you can get a wide variety of colors in both. It all depends on the blend of the particular metal. A lot of the brass you get at the local hardware store can be pretty soft.
As for my preference , I like bronze. What I have available by me tends to be a lot tougher and less gummy to work with. Erik |

I like the way bronze patina's. Brass is easier to work with.

I worked in the metal fields and welded real bronze which welds like butter and brass that looked like bronze but had zinc in it because zinc vaporizes under an electrical arc. Real bronze is uncommon and usually some form of brass. Bronze is just Tin and Copper, brass adds zinc in different amounts.
