I'm building a knife makers vise.

I bought some 2 7/8 some 2 3/8 and some 2" pipe today this is what I got done today. It will come in handy for filework.

I'll post pics when it's done.

Looking forward to this project. Have been wanting to make one myself just haven't found the time to yet. Do you plan on welding the 2 3/8 to the 2"?

Looking good so far. Any plans for the clamping material for inside the tube? I used some really hard wood. Rounded it up then cut it in half. It works pretty good but the tightening screw digs in. It is kind of a good thing though because it keeps the wood from sliding into the tube when I put a blade in. I just threw mine together in a couple hours so mine is not pretty but man is it nice to have. You'll wish you made it sooner.

hey icho and kev . i read some where today a guy used hockey pucks instead of wood . i think pucks are 3" od. x 1" thick . im sure if you glued or screwed a few of them together , then cut then in half that would work awesome ?

I cut some 2" pipe in half, I'm going to weld a piece of 1/4" plate on each 1/2 and epoxy a piece of leather on top.

I used two pieces of 1095 in mine and glued some thin hard rubber over it. The steel prevents the set screw from digging in ....
