Kydex for scales?
Anybody ever use kydex for their scales? I have a few different colors and was thinking it might be neat to try. Epoxy between pieces, let it dry then cut to shape...

Ordinary epoxy won't bond Kydex. Other than that, it might work though I'm not exactly sure if it would be worth the effort. If you want to bond Kydex to something why not just some Micarta or G-10?
There is a glue made up by dissolving Kydex shavings in acetone that is supposed to work. I had better luck with some glue made for leather by a company called Eco, I think they call it Leather Weld. Not sure how it would behave with two pieces of Kydex or Kydex/Micarta but it sure stuck some leather to a piece of Kydex when I tried it... |

Kydex is temp sensitive (think about how it is formed for use on sheaths) leave it on the dash or seat in the sun and it will start curling on you. I'm with Ray, see no reason not to use something more stable if you want to have a synthetic handle.

I have to agree with Ray. I think it's going to be more work, and trouble then it's worth.

I used some for spacer material once on a full tang and it worked pretty well. The handle on that particular knife was also held on with Loveless fasteners. My buddy hasn't given me any bad reports about it yet and has had it for at least six months. He was kind of upset when his son threw that 1095 camp knife into the dishwasher though!

Ed Halligan showed a knife he had made with kydex scales, years ago... I believe he said he had found some extra thick (around 1/8-3/16") kydex, thought the idea of the scales matching the sheath would be neat, and the shear novelty appealed to him...
