Heat Treat oven issues

Ive been building this for a long time. Ran into issues and lost interest. I am trying to get it going again. I made a mistake and cut the grooves on the side bricks all the way to the back. I have to fix those holes. I dont have anymore virgin bricks except what was going to go on top of oven. I was going to cut the back side bricks and replace the middle brick with one brick with the good side inwards. The brick I would use does have grooves on backside. Will that hurt much ? Im out of work and cant buy anymore bricks right now.

The next question- the door design. I will have a 1/4 inch gap between door and front . Do i need to change the design or can this one be modified to work better ?

thanks

Dave

Im understand that the grooves in the side bricks are cut all the way thru to the back leaving holes in the back wall but I'm not following you on how you propose to fix it. If you could remove some top bricks and let me see what you have going on in the back I'm sure we can figure something out.

As for the door, rabbit a 1/4" groove all the way around the inside of the door bricks where they touch the door angle iron. That will inset the door bricks so they mate up to and touch the wall bricks.

If you look at the 2nd pic,the vertical brick on top of oven pic. I am going to cut a brick wide off the side bricks and slide that brick in its place. It will then fix the holes but the brick isnt virgin and has grooves on back side but not the side that will be inside. I didnt know if the grooves would hurt it performance wise.
Does that make sense ?

If the grooves are only the depth of an element, I dont see any problem with that idea.

Using kaowool could be option, it compresses and would fill the gap, just an idea here.

Using of kaowool could be the option but you should try new Iron Dutch Oven for batter result.

There's no problem in the way you build. The bricks will dry, compress and fix itself. In 2-3 days, you can able to see everything alright with the oven.
