Would you buy-use ATS-34 these days?
Came across a retired maker that is looking to sell a mix of ATS-34 and CM154. Thoughts?
I personally like the ATS-34 though in these times, collectors give it a thumb down. __________________ Mike |

I stopped using it a long time ago. Good old BG-42 was better IMO and eventually I replaced that with S30V. If you don't think your customers will want it then the answer is obvious . . .

So many nice usable steels that the marketing trends push them aside, that's the way it is though. Some guys were debating Bohler 690, 695 and 440C, a passer buy blurted it has to be Magnacut in jest.
Started a refurb project with some carbon steel knives from the 60's. It's not a hard steel as a file will cut into it easily. The user prefers them to the Shun and a Henckles that were bought to replace them. The Henckles chef knife was given as a partial exchange for this project, that Henckles is a nice knife. More sentimental side to these knives so I understand that the performance tech is not part of this users priority. __________________ Mike |
