Phenolic sheet source

I have been wanting to use some phenolic sheets for scales for some time but I have found that the cost of the material from the knife maker's regular sources are a bit expensive. What I was wondering has anyone used this company to source the material and if it is the same as or similar to Micarta brand? I hope some of you "experinced" persons can answer this.

Thanks, Mike

Their product is not the same as Micarta but it is similar and should work OK for knife handles. Certainly, it would be as good as the home made Mycarta some of us make. It is the "general purpose resin" that is likely to be different from that used in Westinghouse Micarta which is known in the industry as "the steel of plastics". Anyway, I wouldn't hesitate to try it if you see something you like, I'm sure it would be fine. It wouldn't surprise me to find out that this is exactly the source of the materials sold by some of the knife supply places ...

Thanks for the input. As to colors I have yet to go that far but I like the earth tone of the sample I was looking at. If I order from there I will let everyone know how it works.
