Itc 100

Hey guys so i got some coatings and stuff from hightemp.com i have never used itc-100 before what is the consistency supposed to be like. The guy at high temp i guess buys in bulk and breaks it up to sell smaller pieces. so in the tub was like a hard brown putty and a lil water over it so it dont dry out i assume. so i took some out and went to mix it and yeh some dissolved and thickened up similar to satinite but there way always some stuff on the bottom of the mixing cup that would not dissolve it was kind of a gritty sandy like substance. i painted on what i could and tried to kind of scoop that sandy substance up on the brush and mix it on as i applied it, is it supposed to be like this? dont get me wrong MOST of the stuff did dissolve but there was a lil of this sandy like stuff. also seemed to "air dry" pritty quick i did one coat waited afew mins put some more on figured i would wait overnight and apply one more coat before firering up the forge..

The water absorbed all it could and the rest was left in the bottom of the cup. You want to dissolve all of it, get a bigger cup. Sounds like you did OK ...

ITC-100 isn't magic, just a good reflector for as long as it lasts. I used it once but maybe I'm too rough on my forge because it didn't last long so I never bothered with it again. My forge gets hot enough to melt the wool as it is so I don't think I need any more heat ...

Goes on like watery paint with grit. Very thin coat, acts as a reflector to re-radiate heat back into center of forge.
Which in turn improves fuel efficiency on some forges. Will depend on forge interior design as to whether it's really worth the effort/expense....blown forges and large volume forges not so much help as Ray indicated.
Works quite well in smaller horizontal venturi burner forges. Not tough at all, but most use satanite type furnace cement as rigidizer for protecting and holding K-wool in place providing a base for ITC application.
It's pricey, but can be reconstituted if it drys out and a little goes a very long way. I use it on all my forges and can see a big difference in fuel burn efficiency.....again relative to forge/torch design. Not trying to sell the product, just what works for me.

Thanks crex that what i wanted to know if that grit was supposed to be there.....
so anyway i got the itc stuff none (well it dried overnight going to go fire it now) but my next step is the bubble alumina on the bottom 1/3. i read in a thread on this forum that they couldnt get the stuff to stick on the walls when covered with satinite so they were putting it directly on the wool....i did not know that didnt say much on high temp about cure time thats why i went looking. i dont have alot of the stuff so i dont wanna mess up and do it twice. in the other thread they were doing a vertical....mine is horizontal and i only plan on going 1/3 up you guys think it will stick or is there another way of doing this?

I guess it depends on how sloppy you plan to be with your flux. Generally, the flux falls on the floor - you can get it on the walls but it takes some effort. The Alumina is flux protection so it mostly needs to be on the floor. It might stick to the floor or it might not but if you drag anything heavy across it when the forge is hot you're likely to scrape if off the floor anyway. Just do your best and try it. No matter what you do or how you do it there's almost no chance at all that you'll only do it once ...

I haven't seen an email from you today. I checked the tracking, it says your package should be delivered tomorrow (Thursday) ...
