Which Way Do You Use Your Disc Grinder?
Well, just ordered my new disc grinder from Rob. Wasn't sure which way I would want to grind, so I ordered the unit in the horizontal configuration with the additional horizontal mounting bracket.
Was curious, which way do most folks use theirs? Vertical or horizontal? I can see the benefits of both. God Bless Mike __________________ "I cherish the Hammer of Thor, but I praise the hand of God" |

Verticle seems more natural, kind of like the belt grinder. On the horizontal, I don't care for the cross over grinding throwing grit or maybe the blade at my mid section.
Congrats, definitely just my preference, Craig |

Vertical for me too. For the reasons that Craig mentioned. I've tried horizontal disc grinding in the past, and found that it was very difficult to see/control for me.

Same here
Hi Mike,
That is the way I use mine to. It's alot easier to see what you're grinding....at least for me. You'll love it...I use it all the time for cleaning up my bevels, as well as flattening scales. Dana |

Vertical, but have been mulling over making a stand with a swing away table/mount for the grinder.

i have 2 one set up each method and i gotta say i use the horizontal more than the vertical. Just get a good foot sw. and you cant go wrong either way.

I have one of each and very rarely use the vertical one. Both are reversible and I use the horizontal one pretty often.

Can anyone recommend what type of foot switch? Or where to find them?
Im assuming this is just an ON/OFF switch, since the unit is vari speed. Also, whats the coarsest grit you guys start with? Do you start your initian bevels on the disc, then progress up thru the various grits? I can see where the slow speed will be the cats meow on finer finishes! Thanks in advance! I just bought a foot switch at Harbor Frieght this past summer. Ain't used it yet so don't know how good it is. Bought it for a different project for my screenprinting business. Will probably use it for knife equipment now as the project fell through and I went a different route.
I think I paid less than $10 on sale for it. Check them out! __________________ God Bless! Craig Blankenship Booger County Outfitters LLC. D.B.A Craig's Outdoor Sports Knifemaker and Gunsmith |

thee nice thing with a foot switch is you place your work on the disk then hit the switch grind let off the switch disk stops and you have no wobble marks on your work..........dead flat.

Do I understand that this is a "Dead man" type switch? Press down = Run Let off = off? Makes sense. Thanks for the reply! God Bless! Mike __________________ "I cherish the Hammer of Thor, but I praise the hand of God" |

Hi Mike, I think Ed did a little picture tutorial about his Beaumont disc grinder and wiring up a foot switch. It can't be more than a month or two back.
Take care, Craig |
