is there any hope for this grinder?

i inherited this grinder from my father and was hoping to use it for knife making. I can grind the bevel on one side of the blade but the switch and motor get in the way when working on the other side. I'd like to put a table on the front of the grinder but have no idea if this is possible or where to start with it. Any help is appreciated!

Welcome!

Always hope and a way to adapt this into a machine that you can use. Sometimes it may takes some $ so depends what level of an investment you may be willing to undertake.

Can change the position of contact and other wheels, make up a different base to mount this on and so on. Using pulleys mounting a motor off this base will open up that one contact wheel. As this is configured it will do flat grinds too.

In search I found this place looking for various parts that can be adapted:

They have a variety of parts that can be used in a conversion.
