My wife saw me posting the reply and said:"you admit it !"
I said:" sure, never said I wasn't."

Why and how I started knives? My fingernails and teeth weren't enough to do what I had to do. So it began with a pocketknife when I was young and being a creative mind I wanted to make what I couldn't afford to buy. Since then it just grows, We spend more on equipment and stuff than we would spend on the knives we really need.
I've designed and build my own house and a lot of my furniture.
Maybe someday we get hooked on something else, but I hope it isn't soccer.

Jan

I make knives because something inside me gives me a burning desire to. I love knives, and I love making them. I love looking at them, holding them, learning about them, and using them. After a lot of thought though, I haven't got a clue why?

Could it be we're the only animals that make knives because we're the only ones who don't come with them attached to our bodies already? Most other animals either come equipped with sharp claws or sharp teeth, and an innate knowledge of how to use them effectively. Our teeth are blunt, and our nails are flat and brittle by comparison.

That's a good point. The knife is an extention of the body. It's part of us.

Maybe good knifemaking is a sign of good survival skills and good genes.

Ive had an affliction since a young boy to make things that were sharp. And since Ive learned to pound on things, it's just that much the better!

Seriously, I can honestly say that nothing I have ever tried has filled me with such a sense of acomplishment. Its such a thrill to let your mind loose with a piece of hot steel! And since I have just started scratching the surface of damascus, all i can say is "WOW" man this stuff is soooooo cool!

Plus the feeling I get when I give someone a knife is got to be one of the most "Feel Good" aspects of knifemaking.

Hello Im Mike, and Im a knifeoholic
