Vulcan's genes...and not the Star Trek kind either. The real Vulcan, the one who forged thunderbolts for Zeus. Wouldn't you have loved to have seen his shop?

Dana,
When a smith dies that is where he goes to spend eternity. Where is the coffee?......................Where is the steel?............Where is my hammer?.............Where is the beer????????????????????? |

Tai,
I would have to agree, you are a knife. When I was working full time in the IT feild we had nicknames for things. We labeled people in terms of cutlery. The people who were not so with it were spoons, the people who were ok were forks, and the people who were really on top of the game were knives, and you are certainly a knife. |

Here's a "self portrait" I made a while back.

I had a friend who was big into psychology who said it was a "penetration fixation" that drove knifemakers.
But maybe it's cellular memory passed down through genetics or something that makes the brain say "knife good." People who held fast to rocks ended up dead more? I think everyone is born a blademaker and most people just get broken or poisoned by T.V. along the way. I need more beer |

"Penetration Fixation"...good one, Joe. It would take a shrink type to come with that. Funny, as a knifesmith, I don't think about a knife stabbing so much as I do about it's ability to cut. One can stab with a pointed stick, but I'd dare say the overwhelming number of knife users and makers cut with a knife on a regular basis rather than stab.

It's definately a "penetration fixation". It all ties together perfectly. Early man lacked the physical sex display colorations and decorations of many of the male animals. So, man made knives to attract women. Knifemaking skills were a way for early man to impress women and lure them into his hut for some more penetration.

Which worked quite well 'til she said: 'honey, make me one of these' or 'sweetie, I need a knife like-so ...'
And he responded: 'you're so bloody smart, do it yourself' So I did. *g* Trish |

That's what it is.
Mankind evolved into a knifemaking tribe of these freakish naked apes. If you think about it what other creature makes knives? Man's main two drives were/are sex and then food. You could get both by making a knife. That's definately how it happened! |
