Love/Hate

Definetly a love/hate thing
I love to find scrap metal,
but hate seeing people trash
wooded areas

Found about 12 feet of 1/2 round stock today
near some woods.. That made me happy,
but not the other stuff people are throwing away
:evil

Whats your latest Metal Find?

I've got a microwave that I'm about to throw out... anything useful in there?

Also, two smallish rods, very shiny, heavier than aluminium, but only slightly magnetic (and using a whopper magnet, too) - gonna experiment with them and maybe fold them into some rebar damascus when I get time.

Broken blades from fencing foils (sport swordfighting), very springy, but very thin. Maybe good for a fillet knife or pocketknife blades. Good firepokers.

Hey Chris,

There should be a very strong magnet inside the microwave. I think it's called a magnetron inside that spews out the radiation. I seem to recall a book about using these to make a DEATH RAY

I read something about using a microwave to melt non-ferous metals (silver, copper, brass, ect.) for casting. Seemed kinda crazy to me but who know I guess it could work.

The microwave is only good for parts now. The small metal plate on top which emits energy has degraded to a point where every time you use it, you get lightning inside. Not good.

But a strong magnet, now that's a treasure to dig out.

My query about useful parts has to do with any forgable metals in there... rods, etc. Just a thought. There also ought to be something in the motor for the spinning dish, too.

Be CAREFUL inside that thing. The power supplies inside store electricity in the capacitors and will give you a very nasty suprise. I know from experiance.
