pressure on regulator

Guys;
I've got my blown forge completed 10' pipe, 2" ceramic wool, 1/2" Kast-o-lite 3000deg. and 2 thin layers of metrikote. The blower is from a bounce house. It lit up nicely, thanks Ray for the instruction on doing it properly. Would like to know approx. the propane pressure I should be looking at to get it to welding temp.. My regulator go from 0 to 30psi. Thanks

I have my regulator set around 6, at least on my small one, but I use the needle valve on the line to regulate gas flow more. You will have to play with it a bit to see what works best for your setup.

My regulator is rated 3 - 30 psi and it registers zero when in use so I'm thinking about 3 psi, maybe 4. From my reading most forced air regulators are run in the 3 - 5 range. Don't worry about it. There's a definite limit to how much pressure you can use in your forge without blowing flames out of your forge and halfway across the smithy - and that limit is small. Adjust your pressure until you just begin to have orange flames outside the forge door - that gives you a non-oxidizing atmosphere inside the forge. That should also give you all the heat you need. You can turn the pressure up from there and you will get a bit more heat but much of it will just blow out the door......
