New Nessy
Hey all,
Thought I would throw out a picture of one finished last night. Need to make a sheath, and I still have some cosmetics that I am working through, but this one came out pretty good, and I think fairly honest to the pattern. Hope you all like it. Thanks all,
I thought I responded also, most of got pulled off on something when I was getting ready to, fixed that. My big thing with this one was the feel of the original, size, shape, etc. Really feels good in the and, and I can see why this pattern was so popular with game. Combined with a good jack knife and a hatchet, I would feel good with this combo in the woods. --Carl __________________ --Carl N-T Porkin' Pig Price ?? SCORE! Nice one Carl! The overall shape is a bit reminecent of a Chinese sword. I like it man!
As far as Dave's wood goes..., It's like a drug to me! I have a ton of awesome wood sitting in m handle material cabinet waiting to be used. I was just looking at more last night! Thanks all,
Andy, I know what you mean, I have a set in mind, and just bought 14 sets of redwood burl from him. Anyone who hasn't done a nessmuk should try it. They are really fun to hammer out. I have been giving a new hint to try, but my current method is: Pound the point as normal, but do no thining of the point. Now use a straight pein and draw the blade, the hump will tend to come naturally, as will the curve. --Carl __________________ --Carl N-T Porkin' Pig Price ?? That is a blade style that will natually take its shape from the hammer. When I look at Scagel knives I get the impression that he let the steel flow and dictate the final outcome of the blade shape. Or could it be your sub contious leading you, not to the blade you want, but the blade you need. My most enjoyable and successful sessions hammering have been when I just start with half an idea and let the hammer lead me where it will. For my own enjoyment and personal satisfaction I like to leave a little mystery, art and magic in the mix. Getting too technical takes the fun out of it for me. Having ruined too many hobbies by letting them become a business, I am trying to be careful with this most enjoyable one. Starting to ramble, "I shoudn't have drank all that cough syurp." (just kidding) that's a tattoo joke.

Know what you mean Roc, trying hard not to let this one take over my mental state and stay relaxing. Have been putting off lighting the forge for a bit, since I had a pile forged, and heat treated, and had been putting off final finish and handling. Anyway, got them all to the point of hand sanding, so fired the forge up Sunday afternoon with just a couple bars of 1084 and a fire. Got 3 hunters of varying size and 2 small EDC's forged, liked the shape of them all.
