Knife for my Uncle

My Uncle Dave isn't doing to well , his heart is failing and he is pretty down in the dumps. I thought if I made a pocketknife for him it might cheer him up , he is one of my favorite Uncles.
The knife is a kit from Darrel Ralph , if you ever seen them raw , they are very unfinished aside from the sharp blade , the parts are included of course , pretty fun to build and cheap on the pocketbook , a pretty good knife for the dollar IMO. The pics suck sort of , sorry. I get really mad at the camera or my lack of being able to take decent pics , these pics are the only good ones out of about 50 and 3 sets of batteries later.... Enough on that though.

This was also my first try at heat coloring steel (the pocket clip)

Kind of hard to see but it turned out great , sort of blue/purple/gold.

You can see I fashioned the pivot pins into little Maltese Crosses , they look pretty cool IMO

The scales have a little story , a few weeks back I got bored on a weekend and decided to drive in the country and find some 'local wood' to use for scales , saw this old downed Eucalyptus tree and hacked off an arm sized branch and this is part of the result. They look pretty nice ! Almost like Oak but with pinks and tans, nice figure I think. Most of the knife is done in a semi mirror with a brass thumbstud.

The lockup is very solid and tight , no play in the blade although it is a hair off center when open , I took it apart and put it together many times trying to correct that but the same every time , you really cant tell unless you hold it open against something flat and even then it's marginal.

I think he will like it .

No not my first attempt , this is I think my 4th , working on my 5th.
I enjoy these little kits , I'd rather make them for someone else than myself. The one I am making now we also going to have eucalyptus scales that I dyed but I've got a lot of other woods I've been wanting to try. If I get lazy I might just use the cocobolo ones that came with it lol.
