New to Knife Making
Wanted to say hello to all, I am new to knife making. I am in the process of making my first forge, and also getting needed materials.
I am an engineer by trade and have been a machinist most of my life. I very pleased that I have found this forum as it has been extremely helpful in knowledge. Look forward to the future |

Welcome Dssq
Hmmm, engineer and machinist eh? I have an A.S. in engineering (drafting really) and a background as an aerospace sheetmetal mechanic and precision TIG welding from micro to 3 inch thick aluminum or more with other metals. Also did heat treating for a machine shop, my last job for several years.
Many of the skills you have will be helpful in knife making as you're already used to doing tight fitting and finishing. But you have to be careful as there is a big learning curve and there is always more to learn. I've been making knives as a hobby since the early 90s. It's fun and I've found out many things I didn't know just recently here. There is a lot of information here, a lot. Have fun and enjoy. Last edited by jimmontg; 03-25-2017 at 04:45 PM.
