Buy a lottery ticket. When I first started making I quenched 1095 and O1 in water all the time. I never had the first cracked knife. I even edge quenched one piece of O1 six times that was forged and rough ground to shape to see if I could get it to crack. Now everything I have put in water cracked. There must be something in the water here???

If it were me, I'd say I lucked out. Water quenches and I parted way back - I hate the dreaded PING and then hearing something hit the bottom of the tank. Really sharpe looking job Andy!
Suicycle - That's what you get when you live down stream! Blame it on the guys with the little red castle for a logo. You coming down to Statesboro in Feb.? __________________ Carl Rechsteiner, Bladesmith Georgia Custom Knifemakers Guild, Charter Member Knifemakers Guild, voting member Registered Master Artist - GA Council for the Arts C Rex Custom Knives Blade Show Table 6-H |

Like Hannibal says "I love it when a plan comes together!"

I thought Hannibal said, "I ate his liver with some farva beans and a nice bottle of chianti".
Nice action in that hamon Andy..., you lucky dog! __________________ Andy Garrett https://www.facebook.com/GarrettKnives?ref=hl Charter Member - Kansas Custom Knifemaker's Association www.kansasknives.org "Drawing your knife from its sheath and using it in the presence of others should be an event complete with oos, ahhs, and questions." |

I love water quenching. I do crack my fair share. But when it works there is nothing better. I just would have felt better had the water been at about 80 deg. and the steel at about 1500. As a wise man once said " Sun gotta shine on a cats a$$ once in a while

I can get with the elephant herdsman and a bottle of chianti, but could have gone the rest of my life not thinking about the waste of good sunshine!
