Mr. Brown was as tudent of mine at the ABS school. He showed fromt eh start he has tremendous potential to go far in knifemaking. His forgings were awesome at the school. He also shows he has a great amount of drive to learn. He drove 4 hours one way to spend a day in my shop, then drove 4 hours back to be home in time for dinner.

He showed me the little skinner pictured here before the handle and guard were on it. The plunge lines are perfectly matched, the guard seat had been filed in and was dead flat. I have no doubt the guard fit is right. The blade had nice, even distal taper too. it is not so necessary on a blade this short, but it adds a lot to the looks of the knife and indicates his aproach to his work. This little skinner is much more knife than it appears in the picture

Keep your eye on Chris. He has only made 8 knives, and could probably pass the JS test with the next 5.

Nice lines Chris, well balanced & the handle is great, don't know anything about mesquite, what is it exactly?

Thanks for the comments Mr. Bradshaw. I hope I can live up to your expectations.

Colin,

Mesquite is a scrubby little tree from Texas that is great for smoking with, because of the flavor it's smoke imparts on meat. It's color is a light brown with a slight pinkish tint. All the pieces I've seen have a fairly dense grain pattern.
My family calls me by middle name, Colin, but most people in America mispronounce it Colon. So I just go by Chris.

Thanks for the comments,
Christopher Colin Brown

Being from Louisiana myself, I have yet to meet a Cajun I didn't liked. And Chris, that is a sweet little knife. Mesquite is definitely good for smoking meat. Obviously, it's good for handles too.

Looks like a fine job, Chris. Glad to have you with us.

I think mesquite makes beautiful handles, and is vastly underused. I believe it can be on a par with desert ironwood.

Chris that's sweet. Did you do the tooling on the case? I love the spacers. The knife is about the right size too .
