I could use some ideas on what machines I need in my garage/shop
When I retire, in a year, I want to make some knives, but I really don't think it would be making knives, as I have no interest in making blades. I only want to buy blades from blade makers and then make the custom handles and sheaths of my own design.
I know, at times, I will have to still do some shaping of knives, when I am putting handles on them, but probably much. I would guess I need some type of belt sander and from what I read, probably a 1" or 2" width belt sander. I would think I could also need a disc sander, band saw, scroll saw or jig saw and a buffer. What are your thoughts on what machinery I would need for making all types of handles, from wood, to bone, stone, plastic, etc., as well as working with bolsters and such. I do a lot of hand work with files, on my custom flashlights, so I do have some experience with filing wood and metals, but I don't necessarily want to have to rasp out every handle by hand. Thanks for your thoughts, Justin About me |
