Yes, it is, Kevin. If you want the handle to angle down slightly from the blade (some do, some don't) you could redraw that at a slight downward angle. Having the tang angled downward a little bit, even when you want a straight handle, makes it easier to avoid the kind of problem you had with the antler....

Another question, if I were to cut the tang off the other knife I posted and mig welded it higher do you think it would work?

Sure, if you could do it without heating up the blade. Probably should just finish it out the way it is. It would give you a chance to experience the differences and see what you like best ...

1st thing, that tang is a little to small at the transition from the blade. I mig weld bolts onto my tangs all the time. You must forge the weld or it will not hold. After welding heat the weld zone back to a red heat and work it over with a small hammer. This breaks the grain structure down and makes it strong. Before doing it the weld will break like glass, after you should be able to bend the threads around. Test it before assembly.
