My latest project
I know I dont post here often but please have a look at my latest design. It took a few attempts to get it right but I am quite pleased with the result.

Out-freaking-standing.
I can start a whole list of "how did you"'s on that one. Starting with the denim pattern flows in a circular pattern around the pins and the pins themselves ( not sure I ever noticed pins that have semi circle peices around a central peice) I really like the lanyard pin approach too. |

Its easier to make than it looks.
The micarta is made the same way as any home made micarta but the cloth is cut very carefully and moulded directly onto the knife. The Pins are first made with 7 small tubes inside the large tube. The centre tube is then drilled out and a slightly larger one glued in. I am working on a coffin handled Bowie with a similar style. |

Really cool.
What are the pins filled with aside from the tubes themselves? Did you press the micarta or is that process you can do with a vacuum? |

I honestly dont know. My grinding skills still need improving so I dont think I am ready to put these up for sale yet. Maybe some time soon. Thanks for the interest.

The emblem of my county Northamptonshire is a red rose hence the design. The micarta is pressed in between two square aluminium extrusions but anything flat and rigid would do. I put a layer of cling film over the tang before fitting the bolsters and pressing in the micarta. The finished bolster/micarta scales can then be removed and drilled for the pins before glueing back on and riviting the bolsters. Its a lot of fiddly work (it takes 2 hours to cut the denim) and if you get it wrong you have a big mess. |
