Jimping?

I'd like to try some jimping on a few knives. I'm fairly certain that I can pull it off, and do a clean job of it. My question to those who have experience is, is there a particular size or shape that you find works better than another? I'm going to do some experiments, but without fielduse it may to tough to tell any distinguishable difference. So I thought I'd ask those with some experience.
Thanks
