Winkler knife...

Guys, you would appreciate this one. I sure do. I picked this one up in NYC last weekend.

I just loved the overall shape. You KNOW I like that 'guardless' look. Daniel nailed this one perfectly. I love that older flame etch. Cool.

Coop, Your photo skills are out of this world! I've always liked the combination of these two's work. I wish I had a wife that could do sheath work like that. I'm guessing but is it rawhide over leather?

Thanks guys. I especially like this one.

From Daniel Winkler himself:

"sheath made of rawhide covered with brain tan deerskin fringe and insert"

Brain tan? This sent my wife running....

nyone have any idea on how he does the flame edge? Is it an etch resist image, or is it 2 seperate steels?

God Bless

Mike, Think Coop said it was an etch. Its real simular to what I was doing a couple years ago. You should be able to do you markings with a sharpee pen and then etch.

I plan on having my hide brain tanned when I drop dead. Thats called using you head after you drop dead.....

Thanks Ray, I thought that was the case, but wasnt sure.

Using a sharpie, do you need to draw over your lines more than once to darken them up more? Would that make the resist thicker?

Also, how long will the ink resist the Ferric ?

Thanks and God Bless

Mike

Mike, I would suggest doing some test before you do it for real. It seems to me like I would let them soak around 5 minutes. As far as doing the sharpee I'd experiment with that to. Fingernail polish works good along with a number of other things.
