Handle material.
Could anyone help me with a question. Is there a bone that is black in color or do you have to stain the bone. If so what is the best bone to use on a throwing/boot knife. |

Most bone is white, the exception being ancient/fossilized ones. Colored bone is dyed. Bone is not a suitable handle material for a throwing knife, because it will chip, crack, or break off. I'd stick with a wrapped handle or bolted-on micarta. |

Bone
Buffalo horn is black and it's the closest to bone I know of that is naturally black. And, like Don said, it wouldn't be a good idea on a knife that you plan to throw but it would be fine on a boot knife. |

Re: Bone
If you want a tough/black handle for a chunker, try the black macarta, it is TOUGH. The next choice would be a leather wrap around handle, died of corse.Kinda like a big shoe string tucked in at both ends. |
