My Latest - Knife - No Pen

Hey all, here is the one I finished for a KITH that was done over on BF. Thought I could get some good opions from here too.

The Specs:

Blade Length:..........3.75
Blade Thickness:......0.125
Over All Length:.......7.5
Weight:..................about 4 ounces
Tang:.....................Full; tapered
Handle pins:.............My Mosaic
Blade Pattern:..........My modified "Bama Special" Damascus
Blade Material:.........311 layers of C1095, 15n20, and pure nickel
Handle Material:.......Beng Burl

Yeah, I know, I know, I have nickel going thru the cutting edge, but hey, it is too pretty to use anyway. Right:confused:

Let me know what you think.

Looks really good from here, Laredo! Nice work. I've always loved your damascus. Great contrasts, bold patterns. Nicely done.

I just love the modified "Bama Special" Damascus of yours ... WOW. Where can I buy this type of Damascus, who makes it? And the other question: What happens to the bueatiful pattern once the knife becomes an user/EDU ...

Great knife!!!

Best Regards

Great.

Just like the rest of your knives.

I wouldn't mind about the pure nickel in the edge too, if it was mine .

Reminds me of the Schrade sharp finger. A classic and useful style that has been a first skinner for many a young hunter. You have taken it and inhanced the romance in its line. You should send a pic to Schrade. It could turn out to be the new "Laredo custom Damaskus Sharpfinger" That is a special design, inspired by love, the magic is transferred to all who view it. The blade shape even looks like a twisted heart. Maybe add a pierced heart on the blade. Or a gold inlay heart. Hope you are feeling better, Roc

thanks guys, I appreciate the nice comments.

Hammerdown- Yup, that is where the inspiration for the blade profile came from, maybe I will send a letter to Schrade. You never know.

mark23- I am the only one I know of so far that makes it, but maybe not for long. If the knife is used alot, I am sure the pattern cam be worm off, but a quick etch in ferric chloride will bring it right back. that is what is nice about real "damascus" opposed to the fake stuff, that pattern goes all the way through the knife.

rhrocker - You have a PM answering you question. Now there might be two making it.

Thanks again guys.

Nice knife Laredo, I especially like the wood and the pins, as well as the damascus. Nice but sort of simple pattern. By the way, where exactly in S.W. Michigan are you located?

Jeff-

I am in Allegan MI, proably about an hour away from you. I work up in GR at Benteler right on 131 and Hall St, just south of the S-Curves, probably only about 25 mile from you.

Small world ain't it?

Laredo, the world is even smaller than you think. My uncle, who got me started in knife making, also works at Bentler.

That is way too crazy. Does he work at the hall street plant? PM me his name or email it to me, maybe I know him already.

Sean, haven't been able to locate any 1/8th" pure nickel yet, been looking hard but may have missed it somewhere. I only have one week left to try and make your famous pattern, then I'm out for a few months recouping.

The stuff is hard to find and when you do find it it is tyoically really expensive. I got mine at a local scrap yard, but that was just pure dumb luck.

I wish I could help you out with some, but I need to hold on to what I have left. Try calling your local scraps yards, and keep your eye on ebay.
