Wootz & Ooosic sheepsfoot
This is my fourth knife and the first one with a narrow tang. Still entirely handmade. It was quite a challenge but lots of fun too. The blade is Wootz and it has 4", the handle is oosic and has 5". The guard, buttcap and nut are 1/4" brass. Did the nut by myself and it's all iregular in shape but I'm very proud of it. The narrow tang is welded to the blade, in the big photo with the pattern you see the blade without the tang. For the etch I first finished the blade to 1800, etched 1 minute in HCl, checked the result, recleaned with 4000 and etched again for 1.5 minutes. Here are the links to the photos, I look forward to your comments (about the knife, I know that the photos are not very good ). site.voila.fr/Gomoku2000/small1.jpg site.voila.fr/Gomoku2000/small2.jpg site.voila.fr/Gomoku2000/..._small.jpg site.voila.fr/Gomoku2000/buttcap.jpg site.voila.fr/Gomoku2000/large.jpg site.voila.fr/Gomoku2000/..._large.jpg |

A noble effort, Flavius. Did you do the wootz yourself? |

I wish could do wootz! I don't have a grinder, so about a forge... I bought it from Brisa (Finland). I have a friend Achim Wirtz from Germany who makes wootz. He shared the "how to" on a neo-thribal forum, I can't remember the address. |

Flavius, right on. Looks good. I like your butt cap, think I will steal the idea myself. Achim posts here on the CKD in the Neo-Tribal forum. You have to scroll down further, Tim Wagendorp from Belgium posts here as well. ghostdog |
