My first "Scandi"

It's been a long time since I posted a knife here so here it goes!

This is my first "scandi" knife. Some of you guys have seen it already but for those of you that haven't here she is!

O1 tool steel
Leather, brass, (Jon Kennedy's stabilized cottonwood) black liners and a 30-06!
I still have to redo the polishing but you'll get the idea lol.

Very nice! I don't love the cottonwood in the Handle, but I do love everything else about it. How is the 06 case attached?

Thanks Ricky, I found that the cottonwood is either really liked or not liked at all. The 30-06 head is actually tapped and used as the pommel nut to hold it all together. I found that an "m-6" bolt is the exact size diameter to use in the primer pocket. So I welded an m-6 bolt to the tang and used gun blueing to finish it off.

Nice lookng scandi J.
I just got rid of a 5 gal bucket of misc. brass.....your timing on this posting is fashionably late.
Like the cartridge cap nut. Now I'm gonna have to dig out my case trimmer and see if I can adapt it to a tap holder to tap threads through the primer hole. Neat idea...thanks for sharing.

Thanks Crex, I've got lots of brass but only in a few calebres. I wouldn't mind finding some old military brass or some big 50 cal rounds.
I drilled and tapped it free hand it took about 5 tries to get one straight!

I'd expect to run into some problems. Tapping brass is not too bad, but figuring a way to hold it securely without maring the casing would be the problem. I've been looking at some rimmed cases that would bottom out on the rim (30-30 Win, 35 Rem, and pistol cartridges). Trick is to be able to snug down without scarring the butt cap.

I would like to see a good close up of the blade grind if you get bored or something.

I did the tapping before I cut the base off so I could grab the shell with vice grips. When I tightened it onto the knife it got marred up a bit

Here's a couple more pictures. I still have to do the final polish on the blade.
