blueing
What metals other than carbon steel can be successfully blued? Stainless? Nickel silver? Brass? Any help is appreciated. |

Patrick....being a beginer myself, I have only blued carbon steel (cold bluing).......I have had stainless, brass and copper guards whilst bluing, and the blueing didnt really 'blue' those materials in the actual sense of blueing, but it did discolour the brass and copper...the.stainless was no problem (* see below). I think it is something to do with ferris and non ferrous metals...it should tell you on the instructions. ****Update...I have only used 'cold blueing' products so my experience is limited, but I understand it may be possible to blue other material (including stainless) by using other products and techniques. If you go and check out the Fit and Finish forum and do a search...there is quite a bit of info on blueing there which may help you. Kevin. |

Birchwood Casey also makes brass, and aluminum black. These are available at many Wal-Mart stores, in the sporting goods dept., or your local gun store. |
