Randall catalogs
Could some take a look at these two auctions (one is open, one is closed)and give me some information about the catalogs? Are either legit, both legit, or....? Any help will be greatly appreciated. The item numbers are:
300696542700 and 150761395950 Sorry about listing the item numbers, but I don't know how to shorten the urls. Thanks, in advance. |

They look legitimate to me. Do you collect RMK catalogs?

Hi dsquared!
After checking my sources ("The Randall Knife Information Collection" CD-ROM), I feel comfortable saying that both catalogues are legitimate versions of RMK's second catalogue. This one first appeared in 1942. The hand written note on the top of each catalogue are seemingly identical and are most likely written by Bo Randall. I am not sure what "not made now - 1941" actually refers to. Hope this helps. Cheers! David __________________ It takes less effort to smile than to frown ! |

Hi all!
For those folks who are interested in what these two catalogues look like as well as the auction results, here are the two sellers' photos and the winning bid amounts: This one sold on February 26, 2012 for US $229.77 This on went for US $350.00 on April 22, 2012. Note the similarity of the two handwritten notes to each other and to this genuine example Bo Randall's handwriting on December 30, 1981, some forty years later: Lastly, silly me should have realized that when the United States entered World War II in December 1941, Bo soon stopped making the knives offered in the early catalogues (see below) as he concentrated all of his efforts towards producing his famous "All Purpose Fighting Knife"! This explains the note: "not made now 1941", which must mean the this catalogue was printed earlier than 1942. Cheers! David __________________ It takes less effort to smile than to frown ! Hi Rick,
Yes, I do. I only have a few of the older ones. My best one is an older one with a handwritten letter from Mr. Randall. I paid a gut wrenching amount for it, but it is worth every penny to me. Having you more knowledgeable guys to ask questions to is a real resource to me. BTW, my reason for asking was that I bought the first auctioned item. I was curious as to whether I had been taken. |

I wanted to bring this page back to the top because I am in need of a few catalogs to complete a collection. Here are a few that I'm missing:
12th edition...........1959 yellow (acquired) 19th edition...................green 22nd edition..................orange? 23rd edition...................green 26th edition...................green (acquired) If anybody has one or all of these that they wouldn't mind parting with, I'm a buyer! I also have several duplicates in the safe if anyone is looking for something in particular. Last edited by Ta2bill; 04-09-2016 at 08:13 AM. |

Be careful with those old yellow catalogs. Someone made identical copies of it maybe 20 years ago and it's really hard to tell the difference between an original (if it's in excellent shape) and one of the copies. I have one floating around here somewhere and it is "dead mint" because it's a copy. A bad guy could age it a bit and caveat emptor.

I have seen them around before. They pop up on ebay all of the time, but at least the seller states that they are copies.
I have a set framed for display, 12 catalogs per frame, and I'm doing a second set now. |
