Weird one guys!

I have some great blade steel, though I am not sure what it is. It turns light gray within 2 hours of polishing. I bring it to a mirror finish, but give it 2 hours till its gray. Any ideas folks? I know a lot of carbon steel will turn, but I have never seen it turn so fast.

Do you live in or near an ocean? Or maybe upstairs from a battery factory?

Whatever, try waxing the blade immediately after you finish polishing...

Where did the steel come from, and/or what was it used for?

Don't fight it, control it! That steel wants a patena. Give it a nice one that will prevent red rust.

I think I will use most of this steel in Damascus, I figure the graying will stand out pretty good. Otherwise a patina will probably be the way to go.

thanks!!!!!!!
