And now for something different...

Last year, one of my knives was in the little feature section in Tactical Knives. Well, I got exactly one order from it. I had just came back off the road from my Northrop Grumman job and there was a letter from Mexico. The gentleman did not have a computer, so we started writing back and forth. He was very specific about his design (he has small hands so he wanted a short handle) and he knew exactly the dimentions and material he wanted for his knife. Every weekend, a lot of people gather in the market and they like to make salsa and cut up fruit and socialize, so it will be very important for him to show up with a spiffy new custom knife. He wanted Sugalite (reconstituted gem stone) for the handle material. Not quite me style, but I buffed it to a high polish and it came out pretty nice. What is cool for me is that I made something to suit a specific need and I know this knife is going to get used.

Re: cool

Thanks. The reconsituted stone was really easy to work. I took a little care drilling the holes and made sure I used fresh belts so I wouldn't pull pieces off. I disk sanded to 400 and hand sanded with 1500 grit. The 1500 stuff I have has a stiff backing and I find it more effective than my 600, which has a softer paper. Then I buffed.

That's not the only site I've been having problems with. www.srjknives.com and www.knifephotography.com I've also had image probs with.
