Yes, you can use another method which I'll demonstrate when we get to that. No problem, the fixture is just a handy tool for those who build lots of slipjoints.

Don, Just got done making a rise and fall indicator............. I have to work at the fire station tommorrow so, I'll be starting on the Bolster guide on Thursday.
Do you have any ruff dimensions of the width of the slot ?..... I was thinking of cutting or milling a 1/4 slot.

Is there any particular diameter for the set screw on the bolster guide ?
Yea BB I put mine a little wider than .25 I figured if both peices were 1.8" Then it would be a squeeze to get it in there. Hope I didnt mess that part up ... Already

Yep, a file guide should work fine. Good idea.

The slot only needs to be the width of both liners.

Any size screw will work.
The wider slot won't be nearly as accurate. We'll use the edge as a guide for scribing a line on the second liner to position the second bolster, so there will be a large gap that won't make as accurate a a scribed line.
I suggest you make a narrow saw slot on the other end only wide enough to accept two thicknesses of your liner material.

1/4" slot is too wide. See below.

Hey, that's great! I paid about $7.00 for my indicator on sale at the local Harbor Freight store. they put them on sale 1/2 off pretty often.
