grind up and grind down?

I just put together my 9" disk grinder. Simply attached the 9" face plate to a spare motor. Now I am trying to figure out how to go about grinding a blade with it. If I grind one side with the bevel facing up, do I have to grind the other side with the bevel down? Or do I grind both up or both down but one with the rotation and one against?Seems to me I am missing something here.
Thanks for the help.
Steve

Steve, is this a lap wheel? If your motor is reversable, you can instal a block switch, being able to change directions will allow you to grind both sides rdge up or down. I use mine to quickly remove coarse grind marks to a grit where I want to hand finish. I wouldn't use it to grind a blade from scratch.

A block switch is essentially a 3 position switch, most good hardware stores have them, or Princess Auto. Make sure your motor is reverse capable, I'm not sure, but I don't think all motors are. Yes, ask for a block switch.

This is the type I use.
