looking for ironwood
Where is the best place to get blocks of desert ironwood. There used to be a general sticky with supplies, what happened to it?

Here's the suppliers list:
http://www.internetbusinesslinks.net/SupplierList.html Here's one of the best for me: http://arizonaironwood.com/ Don's got just as good of a rep: http://www.ironwoodbydon.com/ There are others but most of those I get when I'm at a show. I have had nothing but good dealings with Arizona Ironwood!!!! The wood arrives in good condition and as pictured on his web site. He will also give you heads up before he posts on the site. That is how I got the last 2 PRIMO blocks. Nice guy to deal with. Merle Rush

I read his site, If I read it correctly he requires a minimum order of $200. A fair bit more than I need at one time.

Hey Steve,
Thought I might throw this out here, if you hadn't seen it; http://www.knifenetwork.com/classifi...etails&id=2567 I was looking for a piece of something else, and remembered your post. Dave is a nice guy, and even though I haven't bought from him(yet) he has a good reputation around this forum. G. here's one that stocks all the great stuff.
http://www.gilmerwood.com/index.html ebay is also good but be VERY careful with who you buy from. There's alot of great sellers on ebay but there's also alot of sham artists. __________________ Gold is for the mistress - silver for the maid Copper for the craftsman cunning in his trade. As BlackNet has mentioned Gilmer Wood has just about everything that is exceptional. I got a couple bookend cut pieces of Desert Ironwood from them that will knock your eyes out!
Their minimum order online is only $100. Pretty easy to hit when you are buying Desert Ironwood. I am fortunate to live within an hour and half's drive from there & have to go to Portland several times per month to go to the doctors at the VA Hospital, so I usually go to Gilmer's when I am going to see the doctor. If you ever get a chance to visit them.....do it!!!!!! The wood they have is beyond belief, and the quantity they have is amazing. From pen blanks to logs! Dale |

I have made 3 orders from Gilmerwood in the past 10 years. I like the clarity of their photos. Each piece of wood is listed (the image you order is the piece you get). The selection and quality of wood is incredible. The ironwood, pink ivory and burls I have recieved were outstanding. The shipping to North Florida is another story. Also a good bunch of folks to deal with.

I usually get mine from Chuck Bybee at alphaknifesupply. Since each piece(s) are photographed, you can pick the one you want.

I bought a piece of ironwood from Alpha a while back. VERY nice with that really big wavy figure. I like the whole Bowie Block concept too. I also got some super nice blocks of curly maple. i went with the regular blocks because they are thicker than the bowie blocks, but they are plenty big enough for a large handled Moran style fix blade which can use a lot of wood. If you have ever watched Bill's videos, you know that he would start with a piece that looked like a rough chunk of 4 x4
