Does anyone have an idea where I can obtain some vulcanized fiber or other type of spacer material , in colors other than black , white ,red ,yellow or a combination af those colors.

I am in need of green , brown , burgandy and orange.

I think it was Dennis "Osprey Guy" who uses different colored plastic party plates obtained at Target.

As it turns out, Target no longer carries much in the way of the "good" plastic plates...However I have found suitable plastic in other forms and in other stores.

Not all plastic works well for spacers. Much of the plastic used in those disposable plates is in fact just awful as spacer material. But when it's good, it's real good. The type that works the best in my experience, can be easily identified by a triangular symbol on the back, with a "PP" under the triangle and a "5" inside the triangle. The color permeates all the way through from the front to the back, and it has a certain sort of hard nylon-like consistency. I've found plates made of this plastic in every imagineable color. They can be found in supermarkets, discount chains,...and in the "party supply" stores.

Recently I was looking for some black plastic...found it back at good old Target. Of all things it was a black, paint roller tray! It was under $3 bucks, and just the right thickness and consistency.

King Dolla'

After I read some of Dennis posts about the plastic plates I started looking and the local Dollar stores do seem to have quite a few products coded as he mentioned.

Anybody ever use tub surround material for spacers? I have a bunch of leftover white tub surround plastic material, and it seems like it would make great spacer material. I doubt if this stuff will ever shrink or crack.

Dollar store and Wal-Mart let me down--but found some at a party shop--they were not maked by a triangular symbol on the back, with a "PP" under the triangle and a "5" inside the triangle.
I asked the woman and she cut one and then put some glue on the cut area ( where it was white ) and the color remained. Now if this is colorfast--I`ll be a bit ahead. The only problem I see is that they appear to be mighty thin--could stack them I guess.
Again---Thanks

As I said earlier, plastic used in many of the disposable plates does not work well at all...

I could be wrong, but it sounds like you have one of the types that won't work so well. The color must go all the way through from the front of the plate to the back...otherwise the white is what you'll see from the side (not the color) as soon as you shape the spacer to your handle. If the plate is colored in the front but white on the back, it's definitely one of the bad types (been there done that)

...and there needs to be a certain amount of thickness if the spacer is to be visible from the side. Stacking the thin plastic will most likely not work for you.

Sorry...
