Talking My very first knife! (W.I.P)

Im 17 years old, and an aspiring knifemaker. I wanted a work knife \for around the farm, and on camping trips. This was done completely with hand tools except for the very tail end when we bought a belt sander.

I know it doesnt really compare to the peices of art here but i did my best. I cut it out of a badly damaged kitchen knife and hand ground the bevel and edge, the oak handles arent finished yet but i will sand them down and stain them a dark walnut. My next project is to put life back into my dads childhood machete.
What do you think of it?

Thats how most people start, with a scrap of metal and a desire. Looks like you're on the right track.

Which I'd started at 17.

Good first effort. As said before, lots of folks started out converting/salvaging old knives. Good way to learn the basic mechanics involved.

Might I suggest you fill out your profile a bit? You might find you are close enough to an experienced maker to get some advice/help before the addiction takes full hold of you.
Or....at least find a fellow adventurer to share you experiences with.

Keep on truckin'!
