First Attempt

Thanks to a lot of help and inspiration from the members here I got my first billet started. It's still just 20 layers but I'm happy. All seems to have welded. At least I couldn't get it to blister or separate with side pressure. I'll try adding layers again tomorrow.

Gary remember these words................"There is no known cure"

But since you are already infected with the damascus bug, looks great!!!!

Are you planning on cutting and stacking or folding to get your layer count up?

One thing that caused me grief was having scale trapped into the bar. I now grind to clean metal before I fold or restack. A 6" angle grinder works great for this. I picked up some "Gator Grit" wheels from the welding supply place and they ROCK! cut the scale like butter, plus they dont load up.

Great looking shop BTW!

God Bless
Mike

Talking

Four welds later--320 layers (folded).

Sure was nice to be able to step into winter temperatures outside & cool off.
