Can it be done? mirror finish that is

Is it possible to get a true mirror finish using only belts? I have tried just about every combination of belts out there and although the blade ends up shiny it still has a visible direction to the grind. I would dearly love to get back to mirror polishing my blades but would really prefer nor to have to spend the majority of my knifemaking time hand sanding.
Thanks for the help.
Steve

Have you tried any of the felt belts?
I've taken some dead belts and turned inside out, charged with polishing compound, and used before going to buffing wheel.

Take a worn out 400 or 600 grit and load with green chrome. You'll cut that hand sanding down a lot.

I've not seen a belt that will do what you ask but I get pretty close with a worn 800 grit cork belt loaded with green compound. The blade has a mirror like finish although as you say still has grind scratches. From there though it is an easy buff to get rid of them. I very rarely mirror finish these days but that's how I do it when I need to.

I go:

Gritless cork w/green compound

Felt w/green compound

Leather w/green compound

Felt w/pink scratchless

Yes... leather belts WORK for polishing. Stumbled upon this gem of knowledge by complete and total accident. Glad I did.

Note also that those are two different felt belts. Don't mix compounds. Just like a buffer.

I am also newer to the forums, thanks for letting me put my input in.
I use a series of Norax belts from x65, x45, x15, then x5
finishing off with white then pink on the buffer.
Here are my results:
