loveless chute

I would like to have a crack at making this pattern one of these days, i believe i have all the critical dimensions written down but i would appreciate a heads up on the correct size of wheels Bob used for the top and bottom grinds and if different ones were used if you wouldn't mind Steve.
Going to use the attached picture for inspiration and would be disappointed to get any of the design detail wrong.
cheers Dave.

Bob used a 3" wheel on the top, I use a 4". He used an 8" on the bottom, I use a 14". Now, those are what he used in the 1970's, whether he was still making them with those sizes of late, I cannot say. Good luck, send me your address and I'll send you a tracing of the pattern I use, if that would help.

Thank you very much Steve, priceless info.
PM sent in regards to the Tracing

I have been musing of late how great it would be if there were
a website where patterns of Bobs designs were downloadable for a fee along
with detailed pictures, dimensions and wheel sizes used etc
could be called the loveless legacy website maybe.

There was a web site, once a few yrs. ago that had a lot of Loveless patterns on it, I believe it was an old one of a great scrimmshander/knifemaker. I can't think of his name at the moment. It is no longer up, sad to say. That would be great, though! Most all knives were ground with an 8" wheel and a 3" wheel, depending on whether they were a double edge, or not. Single edges got ground with an 8" wheel. The Wilderness was ground with the 8", also. Again, I can't say what the latest sizes are. On this post, page five of #1, you can see the large wheel on the grinder. It almost looks to me like that one is a 10", but I can't tell for sure. There is an assortment of wheels on the wall to the left, with basically only 5-6 different sizes, as far as I can see, maybe 3", 4" 6" 8" 10" and 12"? Perhaps he was using the larger wheels on hunter-types. http://usualsuspect.net/forums/showthread.php?t=136781

I think this may be the site you were thinking about Steve.

That's it. Just click on the list of different patterns on the left side of the page. Not all are Loveless patterns and not all have the same name as Bob's knives, but they are pretty easy to identify, generally.
Thank you, Charles.
