The Border Patrol Handle is usually matched up with a Duralumin Crow's Beak Buttcap & the combo is usually referred to as a Model #22 Handle. I was going to go that route, but I was "Full Up" on Options, so I went with the standard Butt Cap.

Moosie,
That is one of the best looking #14's that I have seen. That's why we should keep Ironwood in mind for the handle of this #4! Kent B. Warnberg RKS #109 |

That is a fine looking 14, the Ironwood is fantastic and really sets the knife off. Yep Ironwood would be nice on our build. Panhead |

Moose,
Is that yours or the shops Ironwood? I really like the Dyed Crown too. Captain, If we did Crown do you have this or does the winner have to come up with it? Same question on the dye job? __________________ See Ya, Chief David Francis |

Cheif,
You know... the problem with a dye job is that you have to get the roots done every 4-6 weeks..... that's a lot of maintenance. |

Thanks guys! I'm delighted that you like the #14 with Ironwood!
Chief asked: Quote:
I bought this one privately a few years ago and I'm not sure if the wood was shop supplied. How's that for a definitive answer? Cheers! Moosehead P.S. I'm almost positive the the Captain's crown stag is dyed. As for as his own crown is concerned, only his hair dresser knows for sure... __________________ It takes less effort to smile than to frown ! |

BPH Butt Cap
Chief,
Yes: A butt cap is available on a border patrol handle, so long as the knife is a "CDT"..Not available on a "slotted", exposed tang knife, i.e. a Model #14, 15, 16, 16 Spl. Fighter! Best, The "Captain" __________________ Captain Chris Stanaback |

Thanks Captain & David & Tune on the Border Patrol question, what about those of us who like the Crown version like yours do we supply the crown if the vote goes that way?

Crown Stag
If you folks decide upon crown stag, you are in for a pretty interesting treasure hunt. That stuff is hard to find! My stash ain't for sale. I would like to obtain more. I luck out, every now and then, and find a piece at a gun show, but not often. That knife pictured in this thread is fairly scarce, just in the fact that it is special forged and not even "non-catalog" catalogged. (That's confusing to write, let alone read). Anyway: We are in the discussion stage and there is always a choice for really nice "Randall shop-supplied" sambar stag. It is seldom a bad choice. We'll just have to see what gets "brought up" throughout this thread. Hell, Chief: Hardly anyone has even mentioned a 5" stainless Model #4...and it is probably the "truly" best using size of the whole bunch!! A long way to go..That's what unique about what we do here. Try to show many points of view...to be continued..Best, The "Captain"
