Wishful thinking

Steve,
It is probably just wishful thinking on your part, but you certainly have a better than good chance to win the purchase rights for the #2. Only about 20 folks ring in with a guess. One out of 20 is pretty good odds. Compound that with the number of building projects we are scheduled to have, and you "really" increase your chances of another "win"! I just wish everyone would join in the fun. I guess some folks just watch from afar! Best and congratulations, Capt. Chris Stanaback

Dave,

My mass is at least double that of (deceased but still loved) Elmer Kieth. A person of slight build can conceal a weapon much easier than a person of girth. I did at one time carry a S&W 629. That was before the scales were removed from my eyes and the 1911 was revealed to me.

The 629 is a 3" barrel with a round "K" frame grip, a limited edition of 5,000 (limited?). I had it Mag-Na-Ported so as to ruin what little hearing I had left (back in 1985). I still take it out of the safe to fondle it and wonder whose hearing will be destroyed when I pass.

I now carry a 3" 1911 45 acp. It's like firing a .38 special compared to the 629. and has one more round to boot.

I still vote for the 8" blade.

*sigh* Even if we are building handguns now, I still want 6 inches of stainless. ;-)

All "tied" up!!

Crew,
I believe that there has been a bit of a "stall" on this job. This may be partially my fault. I have been busy this past week getting ready for, and this past weekend "attending" the Central Florida Gun & Knife show. Great show, by the way! We gave a Model #3-6", leather, away for a door prize. Well attended, etc....but enough about that.
I will be and have been on the road, and have not had a chance to re-read this entire thread until now. I am on my way to Sullivan's Holster Shop and will be in the office late this afternoon. Here is where we stand. We are all tied up! 5 votes for an 8" blade and 5 votes for a 6" blade. Oddly enough only 1 vote was cast for the most popular length, 7". There was also 1 vote for a 5" blade/
The choice comes down to 8 or 6. Let's see if we can change the minds of the 5" and 7" voters!! I'll check in later.
By the way: I took a Model #2-6", carbon, brass standard double hilt, and black micarta "commando-shaped" handle, in trade this weekend. Life expectancy on my table was less than 5 minutes and it was..."GONE"!! I kinda wish I had a chance to photo it and put the pic up, but I probably would have been accused of trying to sway the vote! Best for now, Capt. Chris Stanaback

No RedElk, we're defintely not supposed to be" building handguns now". (Heavy sigh!)

Please folks, let's get back to the creation of our model #2.

In other words...

Cheers!

Moosehead

P.S. My vote is still for a six inch stainless blade.

3/16" vs. 1/4"

Kent,
It sounded like levity, but there really are concessions when swithing from a 5" to a 6" blade in a Model #2. The 4" and 5" are 3/16" stock, vs. 1/4" stock on all of the longer model #2's. It is still not as huge of a transition as a longer one. A 6" is manageable! Looks as though that's what we are heading towards. 6" is "up" by 2 votes now. I'll hold off a while longer, perhaps until this evening, to "move" on. Best, Capt. Chris Stanaback

Cpt,

I knew that we would be switching blade width's, but it looked like the majority wanted a bit longer blade. I can live with that. Remember, pick lucky # __!

If all of the readers on the sidelines knew how cool it was to win one of these, I think that more folks would be jumping in! IMHO!

Votes are done.

Crew,
All votes for the blade length are in and the 6" blade wins by 2 votes. Unpredictable, for sure, but I think we can "build" a strong representation of the Model #2 from this start. Now: "OPTIONS"!!
Let's decide on stainless or carbon, then we'll move on to hilts. We are trying to work from the "tip back", if you will. Let's talk about it. Best, Capt. Chris Stanaback
