Well the Hint with the #6 Grind is very helpful.
I also know that the Capt. likes that #6 Grind Shape. I am aware that the Model #7 "Can" be ordered with a #6 Grind, but that knife can be made with a 5" long Max, so that is NOT it, since the Blade is "Over" 5" long. The #6 Steak Knife also is 4-1/2" long, so that is out. Dick could be on to something with the #6 Carver, since it is over 5" long, available in SS, & multiple Handle materials. But wait a minute, doesn't the Model #10 have that #6 Grind? That knife comes in multiple Blade lengths, 3", 5" & 7". It is standard with the Stainless Steel blade. It can be Ordered with Black or Red Micarta, Rosewood, & Duralumin Handle materials at No Extra Cost. It also has an exposed Tang, which should cover the "Sort Of" exposed Buttcap. That Single Hilt "Pick" from Moose has got me baffled, but the Model #10 does have that "Finger Cut Out" in the Handle, which I guess could be considered a Hilt. I am not aware of any other Knife available with the #6 Grind, but I am not a "Fully Indentured Radalloligist" yet, so there "Might" be another Model available with the #6 Grind that we are not aware of (Remember that the Capt., is always trying to "teach" us something with these Postings). I will go with a Model #10 x 7" - "Salt Fisherman & Household Utilty". __________________ RKS# 4332 Mike Walters Last edited by mhwwlmc; 04-19-2006 at 10:09 AM. |

Lesson completed....maybe
Mike,
Now "that" is what I call "process of elimination"! You're wrong, but you have shown a keen ability to eliminate options and come up with a model that makes sense. Although I may not have been totally forthcoming with my answers to all of your questions, I did not purposely deceive any one either. You are right about the "learning" process. There are a very very few Randall models available with a #6 grind, and it "is" one of very favorites. Can anyone list all of them? Interesting question: We'll see how many folks can name. A Model #10-7" would fit the bill, except it does not have a butt cap, not even "stretching" it a little. Dick is correct with his guess of a Model #6-9"!! "BUT" (ever notice all of the "butts", nothing vulgar intended, with regards to my posts), it is "not" as pictured in the catalog. This explains my "kinda, sorta" answer to questions about my "thinking" Randall being pictured in the catalog! The Randall I am thinking of "is" a Model #6-9", but it is "not" made up as one would normally think. "SO": Now we move on to the second part of the guessing game. This should take another day, or so: What kind of "special features" and "options" are featured on this knife? Hint: The "sorta" butt cap response should help....or hurt...depending on which way ya'll go with it. Good luck!! Best, Captain Chris Stanaback P.S. I can think of about 8 models that the Randall shop has offered in a #6 grind. One is no longer available. Hint: Azgator should know this one, as he ordered one a while back and it was turned down! With that softball, I'll take a swing.
The knife formerly, but no longer, available in a #6 grind is a #3. I"m lucky to have #3-6 from the late 70's, wish I could get another He's my guess at the knives available with the light saber-like #6 grind: #4, not sure of the lengths, but I think I've seen 4.5", 5" and 6"(Kittery Post special) #7, both 4.5" and 5" #10, all three sizes #6, all sizes (took me a while to come up with that one) Denmark Special GTR One might put the #20, 21 and 22 on that list, but with their upswept points, I think they are different kind of knives. That's not 8 models, so there's undoubtedly a few oversights or errors in that list, but hey it's nearly 11 p.m......... |

Good boy!!
I think that's all of them. The Model #4-6" is "still" available with a #6 grind, but "only" in a 6" blade and "only" in O1, Swedish tool steel. The Model #20 and #21 are upwept blades and don't qualify for the #6 grind term. The same can be said for a Model #11, "Alaskan Skinner", although the actual "grind" on the blade had a similar angle, the "drop point" disqualifies it.
The Model #22-4 5/8", "Outdoorsman", on the other hand sports all of the proper features, in my opinion anyway, to qualify! It has an upswept, "trailing point" blade, similar to the "Denmark"and "GTR" specials. Good boy, Gator! Best, Captain Chris Stanaback P.S. Nobody wants to take a stab at my Randall "thinker", eh?
