Additional info.

Here is some additional information you folks should know. JC mentioned "slab sides". Slab sides are available on many Randall models. Similar to the handle that comes standard on the "Cattleman", slab sides, or flat sides, especially with underneath #14 style finger grips, make a great amb. grip and handle combination....and I'm not just talking about stag handles either! These finger grips are more subtle than a model #14. The edges are rounded off and the entire "line and look" of the knife is not compromised. The same goes for wood or micarta. Just something that I did not mention earlier.
Best, Captain Chris Stanaback

Jeff,
Brass collar, scalloped or smooth, along with a smooth nickel-silver collar is available. Also scalloped butt caps, coolie caps, etc. are also available. Best, Captain Chris Stanaback

Nickel silver single hilt, alu and black spacers, slab side stag handle, either n/s butt plate or compass.

Unless, The Captain has some big horn sheep CW, in which case I would love to see that instead of stag.

No:Sorry, Gary. No sheep horns of any kind at this time. I've got some Spanish goat horn being cured for a much later date. Best, Captain Chris Stanaback

Butt cap options

Mike, and all,
There are a whole lot more than 3 different type/ styles of butt caps. Standard: Standard, with a radiused edge or "rounded". Both of those are available in brass, duralumin, and nickel-silver. So, let's see...That's "6" already. Crow's beak, in brass and duralumin: "2" more. Smooth "coolie" caps in brass or duralumin: "2" more. Scalloped and flanged scalloped in brass: "2" more. Smooth flanged in brass and duralumin: "2" more. PLUS: You can order "thin" butt caps in brass and duralumin, but "not" nickel-silver: "2" more. Then there are those same last "2" with a radiused edge: "2" more. Get the picture? More than 3. Lots of options. Of course for an EDC several of these are pretty impractical. Hope this helps to confuse ya'll even more. Best for now, Captain Chris Stanaback

Stag with nickel silver hilt, alu & black spacers and compass. If I lose this one I think I'll just have to order one. this is one I have to have.

Since it is going to be an "EDC" Knife, in my opinion it "MUST HAVE" the following:

Thumb Notches (Every "User" needs these)

Duralumin Butt Cap - Rounded Off (The full length bolted Tang, for strength, can't be beat. The Duralumin Butt Cap to keep the Butt Weight Down, plus the Rounded off Butt cap will not show the Nicks that this knife will eventually get)

Wrist Thong (Every "User" also needs this, but most of the time the Wrist Cord will be left off)

I have not committed yet to the Handle Material, Handle Shape & the Spacers, but Black Micarta with all Black Spacers or Leather with all Black Spacers is what I am leaning towards. I personally don't care for a "Flashy / Shiney User".

Pre-results

This was a lot more fun when the mods tallied all of this up. So far this is what we have: Sort of a "pre-result". Still plenty of time to voice your opinion:
Stanaback Special with a 4" stainless steel blade of 1/4" stock. Thumb notches. O.K., no problem. All of that is standard. Black "basket weaved" sheath, with no hone pocket. No problem: Standard.
Nickel-silver single hilt: 5 votes
Brass single hilt: 2 votes
Aluminum and black spacers: 2 votes
Brass and red spacers: 1 vote
All black spacers: 1 vote
Brass scalloped collar: 1 vote
Micarta handle: 2 votes total ( 1 for antique gold and 1 for black)
Wood handle: 2 votes total (1 for maple and 1 for cocobola)
Stag handle: 4 votes total (2 standard and 2 "slab sides")
Duralumin butt cap: 1 vote
Nickel-silver butt plate: 1 vote
Brass butt plate: 1 vote
Wrist thong: 4 votes
Compass: 5 votes
Single finger grip handle: 1 vote
O.K. still a ways to go. I think we should pick a "HANDLE" and decide upon the "rest" of the options from there. Someone may want a slab side handle with stag and finger grips with micarta. Without trying to do it "all" at one time, we can ease this building project. So: come on: What kinda handle do ya' want? Best, Captain Chris Stanaback

Since we're supposed to pick a handle first, I'll vote for black micarta.
