Shop Hazards
with some recent events everyone needs to reexamine their work place and habits. the listed link is to a reprint of metal workers hazards from a magizine article printed in 1978 and it still has valuable info. this was pointed towards the jewelry side of working with metals, but most substances apply to the knife maker as well.

I forge copper for candle cups, keyring medallions and other trinkets. When wire brushing and polishing a respirator is worn, have a suction system ventered outside and I wash hands well after working with copper. The forge is cross ventelated with fresh air via a fan pulling air outside from the back of the forge. Fire scale around the anvil is swept often.
On my last physical my blood was tested for copper just for grins, it was OK. __________________ Happy Hammering, wear safety glasses. Gene Chapman Oak and Iron Publishing www.oakandiron.com/ |
