benefits

Terry: yes, the liners reduce friction considerably, thereby lengthening bearing and belt life. The most noticable benefit for me though is the dead flatness and wear resistance of the platen itself. Hope this helps, and others are welcome to chime in on the benefits here also.

I'll chime! I bought a liner from Steve at Bowies hammer-in I think in 2001. I was skeptical when Steve told me to just epoxy it on, but he was insistent that it was that easy. That liner is still on my grinder,(Bader II) has never moved, is still as flat as the day I put it on, and offers so little resistance that I had to tighten up my tracking adjustment tighter than I have ever run it. Now I'm only partime, and don't grind as many blades as some, but I see no wear on this liner at all, and the belts run a LOT smoother. I'll probably be singing the praises of this same liner in another three years!!

Thank you Steve and Lickin.....Sounds good, now i just gotta figure out the best platten size. I'm building a grinder out of pieces parts. It will use 36" belts (there is a platten for that I can measure) then jumps to 48" belts and any belt size after that up to 72". So I should be able to use any platten size for the pyroceramic sizes you have listed. Any insight from you guys on the optimum length would be helpfull, i was thinking the 6" should be enough but you all have way more experience then myself. Come next week i'll be ordering at least two, Steve ,perhaps three. What brand epoxy you use, Lickin?

B safe
Terry

Folks usually don't believe this, but I just put another one on with 3m double sided pressure tape. Same stuff you get in the stationary section of the store.

Clean both surfaces with solvent and 3 strips of tape and away you go. Couldn't be easier.

The tape is also kinda thick. I think it adds a little cush, but that's probably psychological.
