Lightbulb Midwest Knifemaker's Association?

Greetings. I've posted a thread at Ed Caffrey's forum asking for input regarding a Midwest Knifemaker's Association . Any input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Dave

I'm sorry, I don't know anything about that organization.

Perhaps some of you midwestern makers?

Hi Steve, I made some lame phrasing there; we're trying to put one together, because you're right - there's no such thing.

Any ideas you have would be greatly appreciated. I've been spending some time with other websites and newsletters some folks have been kind enough to turn me onto, which helps a lot.

midwest knifemakers assn:

Quite right...there isnt a midwest knifemakers assn......But
there was untill a few years ago.Any of a few men whose names you may recognize would probably be most willing to discuss
the assn's history, and what might be needed for a re-birth
of sorts....Corbin Newcom,Rusty Rardon,or Jim Haynes.

Good luck in your efforts. Anything we can do to increase the customknife awareness is good.

Midwest Knifemakers Assn.

Thanks Steve...
I suspect that there might be room for a new knife type
organization in the broad midwest.
I've thought for some time that an association of knifemakers AND
other interested folks could ( with the right homework and planning) work quite well.

Great idea. We need new blood, new customers, new ideas and new locations to push and introduce knives. Keep at it, you never know what might develop.

Russ, would you be able and willing to come to Des Moines in early July for a couple days? Perhaps July 4 weekend? We've been tossing that date around, more people might have the long weekend since the 4th is on a Friday.

I'm thinking we might even be so bold as to rent a room at a local hotel for meeting space, perhaps even put up some tables on Saturday and have an actual custom knife show. I know, I am a dreamer...

But I'll pay the bill to advertise a "show" in the local paper if enough interest comes up soon enough. Maybe we could try to get folks in their cities to advertise it too.

In any event, we thought we needed an organizational meeting, and excuse to talk about knife making and ogle others' work. It may end up just being half a dozen people, but we'll have one fine time, guaranteed!

We're putting a short letter together to mail out by the end of this month, so anyone interested that hasn't already, please send me your postal address. My email address is dclarsen@mchsi.com

And yes, there are driving members of this thing who don't use a computer, so we will send everything in the mail as well as via email.

Hope you will join us!

And Steve and everyone else here, let me extend an invitation to you, too. You don't have to live in the Midwest to join us for a good time! Anyone who would like to be included in our mailing list, please send me your postal address. Thanks, it'll be great to introduce more people to what we do!

Dave

Well, we're working on it. The guy who's copying the letter has it but I haven't heard from him in a couple of weeks. Everything is ready to go, I'll give him a call and see if we can get this moving. At this point we may have to edit the freakin letter...

Do we have you on our mailing list? If not shoot me your address.

Sorry for the delay,
Dave

If you'll look closely, editing is mentioned toward the end of the job description, see it?

You're already starting to have fun!

Blessings to you all. Keep on truckin'!

Steve
